First of all, welcome, Nathalie! I’m really glad you found my blog. And thank you for suggesting this neologism. I visited your site “interpatriate.net” but couldn’t find a link to your book. Is it still available? The term “Interpatriate” implies that you have a connection with your “patriae”, i.e. father-countries/home-countries, right? But if this is not the case? If the relation you have with your father-country is not that deep or, not deeper than with other countries you’ve lived in? “Inter” means “between”, “among”. So, “interpatriate” would suggest that there is a correlation between the patriae. – I would really love to know more about this definition. I’m so glad you liked, N.W. and that you felt the same. Yes, it’s not easy to put those feelings into words and finding some definition does help, yes, but only to a certain extent. I do feel I belong more to the places I’ve lived in than to my passport country and I feel more an ex-patriate from the country I’ve lived during my childhood, Italy. I’m really glad you found my blog and would love to know more about your story! – Ute

I’ve just visited your blog for the first time and enjoyed it.
I coined the term “interpatriate” to describe those whose “heart has many homes”.

I never liked the word “expatriate” and the term “interpatriate” just seems to better express that I am at home in several places where I have a strong sense of belonging.

Thought I’d throw that into the discussion – and hope it doesn’t reignite the headache!
